Introducing Second Chance Romance, Afterglow Books' Used Book Program, where every book gets a second chance to be loved! To enrich our Used Book inventory, we rely greatly on the generosity of book donations from our cherished customers. As a token of our gratitude, for every book* donated, customers will earn one stamp on their SCR stamp card. Once they accumulate 10 stamps, they can redeem their card for a generous 20% discount on their next in-store purchase. (Limit one coupon per transaction; conditions apply.)
*Books are subject to evaluation by a store associate to ensure quality and relevance to our collection. Upon assessment, accepted books will receive a stamp. Acceptance criteria include considerations such as the book's condition, quality, and genre suitability.
As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Afterglow Books Inc. offers a unique benefit to our valued donors. When you donate books to Afterglow, you're eligible for a tax deduction based on the retail value of the donated books. Need a receipt for your donation? No worries! Simply request one at drop-off, and we'll be happy to provide a receipt via email within a couple of days. Your generosity not only supports our mission but also comes with a tangible tax benefit for you.

Are you only accepting romance books?
Nope! While romance holds a special place in our hearts, our Used Book inventory will encompass a diverse range of genres. Second Chance Romance is simply our endearing term for a book's second lease on life. However, it's important to note that we are primarily a Romance and Fantasy themed bookstore. Therefore, we prioritize stocking a substantial selection of titles within these genres.
What do you do with the books that don't get accepted?
We offer several options for donated books that don't meet our inventory criteria. If a book isn't accepted for our inventory, you're welcome to take it back. Alternatively, if you prefer, we're happy to donate it on your behalf as part of our mission to support underserved communities in Buffalo. Even if a book doesn't align with our inventory goals, we believe it deserves another chance to be cherished. We're committed to finding it a new home where it can continue to be appreciated by someone else.
How long does it take to get my donation evaluated?
The timing for book evaluations can vary. If you've arranged a specific drop-off time, it typically only takes a matter of minutes, though this may vary based on the number of books. If you're stopping by the store without an appointment, the duration of your visit will depend on our current level of activity. Don't have time to wait? No problem! You can leave your books with us along with your contact information. We'll promptly assess the books, inform you of the number accepted, the corresponding stamps you'll receive, and provide options for picking up or donating any remaining books.
