The Night Bus

One Last Stop meets One Day in December in a heart-warming romance where two strangers, after a chance encounter on public transit involving a copy of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, set out on a journey to solve a literary mystery and win back a lost love that leads them somewhere entirely new together.

Every day at 4 a.m. Daisy takes the N73 night bus to her job in the newsroom of Entertainment Now in Marylebone. And every day for the past six months she’s seen the same man sitting in the same seat, obsessively turning the pages of the same novel. What’s his story? Does he really just love Woolf’s Orlando? Or is there some deeper reason for his furrowed brow and furious page turning?

Ever since his girlfriend left him on the day he’d planned to propose, Tom hasn’t been able to sleep. Sophie never fully explained her reasons for ending the relationship, just that she’d read a book that made her realise they weren’t meant to be together. Tom has questions and the answers must be hidden somewhere in the novel she was reading right before she broke his heart. If he can just find out the truth of why she left, maybe he can win her back.

When their bus terminates unexpectedly one night and a group of drunken men start harassing Daisy, Tom steps in to defend her using the only weapon he has at hand, his precious book. Daisy and Tom finish their journey on foot, talking through the night, and Daisy finally learns why Tom has been reading the same novel over and over.

Eager to repay Tom for his chivalry and intrigued by his story, Daisy offers to help him solve his puzzle and win back the girl. But as the two grow ever closer, Daisy wonders if her heart is actually in the quest or if she’s secretly hoping Tom might see that what he really wants is actually sitting on the seat beside him.
